Corneal GP Lenses

Corneal GP Lenses

Corneal GP lenses also known as RGP lenses. Corneal Rigid Gas Permeable (Corneal RGP) contact lens is a type of specialty lens that is used to provide vision correction for early stages of Keratoconus (KC). Among difffernt Corneal RGP lenses, Rose K is the most frequently prescribed gas permeable contact lens for keratoconus.

Corneal RGP lens covers the irregular cornea. The lens is customised to suit individual’s corneal shape and rests on the corneal surface which provides good vision for the whole day. In fact, these rigid corneal lenses provide more oxygen to the eye than traditional soft lenses. They also give better vision, durability and are more resistant to deposits than soft contact lenses.

Rigid Gas Permeable (RGP) Lenses

We favor rigid gas permeable lenses over soft lenses for the following cases:

  • For those who want the sharpest vision possible.
  • For those with astigmatism that is beyond the range that can be corrected with soft contact lenses or for those whom soft contacts don’t produce the desired vision.
  • Those with presbyopia. There are many bifocal and multifocal lens designs.
  • Those affected by keratoconus where the cornea is cone-shaped and causes a lot of visual distortion.
  • Those who require contact lenses after surgery.

Eye Conditions Treated with RGP lenses:

  • Corneal Ectasia/Irregular Astigmatism
  • Keratoconus (Mild keratoconus and Moderate keratoconus to some extent)
  • Refractive Errors
  • Myopia (Short-sightedness)
  • Hypermetropia (Far-sightedness)
  • Presbyopia
